Bristol Walk-in Centres
- NHS Walk-in
Centres offer fast and
convenient access to a range of
NHS services, including health
information, advice and
treatment for a range of minor
illnesses (coughs, colds,
infections) and minor injuries
(strains, sprains, cuts).
They are open from early morning
to late evening, seven days a
week. The centres are run by
experienced NHS nurses, and you
don't need to make an
appointment. They are improving
the way in which thousands of
patients get immediate treatment
for troublesome minor health
problems or injuries.

FRENDOC

FRENDOC provides an Out of Hours
emergency medical service for GP
Practices.
The telephone number is 0845
121 0504
Frendoc can only be accessed by
telephone.
When the surgery is closed,
patients should telephone
Frendoc (Frenchay Doctors on
Call). Frendoc provide an Out of
Hours Emergency Medical service
for GP practices. It currently
provides this service in an area
of South Gloucestershire &
Bristol with a population of
approx 250,000 patients.
The number above is manned by a
Receptionist from 6.30pm to
8.30am (weekdays) and weekends
to 8.30am Monday. Your phone
call may be recorded. A doctor
is always available and patients
may be offered telephone advice,
a consultation at the Primary
Healthcare Centre or a home
visit if appropriate.
How the Service Works
The patient or carer telephones
FRENDOC and a receptionist will
ask and record the patient
details and a brief description
of his or her medical complaint.
They will ask for:
- The phone
number at the patient’s location
- The patients
home address and date of birth
- The practice
and GP the patient is registered
with.
Please try to have this
information available when
phoning.
The medical staff will
priorities the calls based on
the patients’ clinical needs.
The Primary Healthcare Centre is
at Frenchay Hospital (in the
first building on the left after
entering from Frenchay Park
Road).

Directions
From the M4, exit at junction 19
and take the M32 towards
Bristol. Frenchay Hospital is
situated just off the M32
Motorway. Take the first exit,
junction 1, signposted Kingswood
and Downend. At the roundabout
off the slip road turn left,
following signs to Frenchay
Hospital B4058 and Kingswood. At
the first set of traffic lights
take the right filter lane.
Proceed along Frenchay Park
Road. The main entrance to the
hospital is half a mile along
this road on the left hand side.
Public Pay and Display Car Parks
are located around the site.

As well as our practice, there are
many other local NHS services you
can contact for health advice,
information or treatment. Before you
do, remember that you can treat many
minor ailments such as colds, coughs
and indigestion by keeping a
well-stocked medicine cabinet at
home. We suggest you keep the
following:
- Paracetamol
and aspirin (children under 16
and people with asthma should
not take aspirin)
- Mild
laxatives

Anti-diarrhoeal medicines
- Rehydration
mixture
- Indigestion
remedy (for example, antacids)
- Travel
sickness tablets
- Sunscreen –
SPF15 or higher
- Sunburn
treatment (for example,
calamine)
- Tweezers and
sharp scissors
- A thermometer
- A selection
of plasters, non-absorbent
cotton wool, elastic bandages
and dressings
Remember
- Keep the
medicine chest in a secure,
locked place out of reach of
small children
- Always read
the instructions and use the
suggested dose
- Watch expiry
dates – don’t keep or use
medicines past their sell-by
date
- Take all
unwanted and out-of-date
medicines back to the pharmacy

able to give you free
health advice at any
time – you don’t need an
appointment. Many
pharmacies operate
extended hours on a rota

Accident and
emergency/999
- Whatever the
day or time, if you or someone
else experiences severe chest
pain, loss of blood or suspected
broken bones, go to your nearest
accident and emergency
department or call 999.
Accident and emergency
departments are open 24 hours a
day, 365 days a year and can
assess serious injuries and
provide emergency treatment.
