Specialist and hospital care
If a GP or another member of our
health care team believes you need
hospital treatment or specialist
care elsewhere, they will ask you
where and when you would like to go.
They will then send a referral
request to the provider.
If you would prefer to have some
time to think before deciding where
and when to have treatment, you will
be offered the option of calling the
practice later and we will be able
to arrange a referral request.
Copy of Referral Letter Policy
Should patients wish to have a copy
a copy of a referral letter they are
requested to make this known to the
referring clinician at the time of
consultation. The copy will be
available for collection from
reception within 14 days.
The practice has a policy of full
and open discussion about why
referrals are being made. Many
patients may feel that this is
unnecessary and will appreciate the
extra work load this places on our
already very busy team. This view is
appreciated by the practice; however
we are happy to comply with
patients' wishes, particularly if
they feel that this service will
enhance clinical care.
